After a year 2003 marked by spring frost and a heatwave, the 2004 vintage is considered by many people from Champagne as a miracle. A record harvest quantity and an exceptional qualitative level have provided this vintage with out-of-the-ordinary characteristics. Amongst the best terroirs of Champagne, the fantastic Clos Pompadour is able to sublimate the greatest vintages. A meticulous selection of the most beautiful grapes of the three champagne varieties, reaching a perfect maturity thanks to a pure chalk subsoil and a micro climate linked to the traditional walls which enclose these Clos, have allowed the winemakers of the Maison to preserve and enhance the minerality of the wines from this remarkable site. It has been necessary to wait for almost 15 years in the cellars before this cuvée was able to fully express itself. 15 years during which the components of the wine and those of the yeasts have very slowly entered into their alchemy to have us taste today a champagne with an unbelievable complexity.
TASTING NOTES
On the Eye: With a radiant shine, a pale golden colour with reflections of crystal invites to tasting.
On the Nose: The first aromas of confit lemon reveal a very great elegance. Very rapidly the aromatic complexity becomes clear: notes of dried apricot, white flower, blackcurrant syrup, eucalyptus are blending and completing themselves mutually in total harmony.
On the Palate: The attack on the palate is forthright. The mouth is very rapidly embraced by an unbelievable minerality. The impression is silky, almost velvety. Notes of mandarin and white pepper characterise the central element of tasting with a nice amplitude. The finish is tense, salty, almost anisated. A pinch of yuzu tends to conclude a tasting with an infinite length.
