You might imagine that a Scottish woodcutter from the high country would enjoy a satisfying red wine at the end of the day - something rich, warming, full-bodied, and affordable.
The Woodcutter's Shiraz is a wine that showcases the emerging Shiraz vineyards of Barossa, different from the established old vines that constitute our other cuvées. However, it still receives the same top-notch viticultural and winemaking treatment as all other Torbreck wines. The grapes are carefully selected from low-yielding vines, hand-harvested and tended, then open fermented and gently basket pressed before being aged on fine lees for 12 months in large format seasoned barrels and foudres. Despite being praised for its succulence and richness; this wine also boasts a complexity and texture that are rarely found in wines at this price.
Woodcutter's Shiraz is a blend of Torbreck vineyards from the Barossa and Eden Valley regions. These vineyards are a mix of established and younger ones, which are believed to be the future stars of the Torbreck portfolio. The wines made from these vineyards are crafted to be easy to drink. To achieve this, they are matured for a shorter time in older French oak barrels. This allows the Woodcutter's Shiraz to be released young, as a well-balanced and vibrant wine that showcases the generosity of Barossa fruit and the soft tannins that come from not using new oak.
